Trend Report: The Roaring 20s

Chanel

If you haven’t already been inspired to whip out your 1920s attire by Scorcese’s ground breaking TV show, Boardwalk Empire, then the release of The Great Gatsby will surely have you flapping to buy some sparkly items in 2013.
With only a three minute trailer as our fashion reference, director Baz Luhrmann has kept us wanting more. The costumes for the film have been designed by Miuccia Prada increasing our excitement ten-fold.

While we wait for the May 2013 release of the much anticipated film, we have been teased with many a twenties inspired S/S13 runway. Shows such as Dolce and Gabbana, Jonathan Saunders and Marc Jacobs were filled with an abundance of beading, feathers and lace. Most notably following the twenties style is Chanel’s show held in Paris. Head designer, Karl Lagerfeld, provided numerous pieces sporting a drop-waist shape, sequins and fringing.

It won’t take you long to find 1920s runway-inspired looks on the high street. With the likes of Topshop, New look and Urban Outfitters all having pieces that could easily be found in The Great Gatsby dressing room I predict we’ll all soon be cutting our hair into bobs to complete the look.
